About 8000 species of ferns, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees are grown in St Andrews Botanic Garde where some are native to Scotland but most grow wild in other regions of the world. Outdoors plants are hardy enough to comfortably be cultivated in the St Andrews climate climate.
The design embraces a series of small gardens inter-connecting with one another as nature would dictate. For example the Rock Garden merges into the Scree, which then merges into the Heath Garden. The Rock Garden and Scree, built into a slope, mirror natural wildness.
The waterfalls and ponds produce a completely different environment in the Water Garden and add an extra dimension to the Garden both visually and sensually and attract an increasing number of birds and mammals.
Opening Hours: April to September, 7 days, 10.00 - 18.00 hrs.
