The course at Pitreavie has the distinction of being designed by the same internationally renowned architect who crafted one of the world’s finest courses at Augusta National in Georgia, home of the US Masters, namely Dr. Alister MacKenzie (1870-1934). The double and triple-tiered greens are a distinctive trademark.
The course displays a parkland nature with a few hints of links-like turf to play off where a crisp connection with the ball will yield much needed control for accuracy. The course provides a good test of golf. You have a fair chance of playing to your handicap on this course. The golfer needs to think through the shot, taking into account the diversity of terrain. Without being able to see the bottom of the pin on many holes, you must be sure in your mind before committing to the shot. With half of the greens having burns (small streams, rivers) in play this is just another factor to consider when thinking through your winning shot.
