The Carmunnock Highland Games have a traditional flavour with a touch of difference. In traditional caber tossing the "12 o'clock" position is perfect but at Carmunnock they also toss the caber for distance. Different sizes of weights are thrown in the traditional manner for height and distance but the Stone Putt is different from the Shott Putt while the Farmer's Walk is a test of athleticism as well as strength. There are other different events such as the Atlas Stones, the Pole Push and the Swingle Tree, names you will only hear at Carmunnock.
The Games kick off with a traditional procession of chieftain and athletes to the games arena followed by the opening ceremony. Numerous events and games take place at the same time so you are spoiled for choice. During all the action the Eaglesham Fiddlers are fiddling, the Pipe Band is piping and the lads and lassies are performing their complex but graceful movements in the Highland Dancing. You might just have time to relax in the Beer Garden.
