You will be fascinated for hours with a visit to the Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow. The exhibition in the entrance gallery immediately attracts your complete attention and absorbs you with their brilliant presentation of the "Antonine Wall: Rome’s Last Frontier".
The museum first opened its doors in 1870 thanks to the funds and the substantial collection bequeathed by William Hunter, a Scottish anatomist, scientist, artist, teacher and medical doctor to name but a few of the talents of this very clever man. Fortunate to have the patronage of royalty and aristocracy he and his agents combed Europe to add to his own pioneering scientific instruments and research.
The collection has since grown by way of further endowments, the museum now being one of four buildings housing the collection comprising art, coins and medals, antiquities, ethnographic objects, minerals, zoological specimens, dinosaur bones, skeletons, insects and other biological specimens.
