Dalmilling Golf Club has the River Ayr bordering the southern end adding interest to the early holes.
The first hole plays away from the clubhouse and dips into a rolling valley. The 5th fairway runs adjacent to the river where any wayward shots might end up with a wee paddle. The signature hole, the 6th, is a 135 yard par three that is virtually surrounded by water and is immediately followed by the sharp left hand dogleg 7th, a hole that has wrecked many a good card.
The back 9 has its challenges. The 10th is for the big hitters whilst the 11th can be tricky with a pond awaiting any stray shots off the tee. The 14th par 5 can be a long hole on a windy day where position is key. The 15th par 3 is possibly the trickiest hole on any day with its sloping green guarded by bunkers to the left and rear. The 17th can be the most difficult hole on the course depending on which way the wind is blowing while heading for home the position from the tee is vital if a par is on the cards.
