The Arbroath Signal Tower Museum features the story of the magnificent Bell Rock Lighthouse and shows how the coastal town's connection with the sea has influenced Arbroath's social, industrial and ecclesiastical history. The Bell Rock Lighthouse still stands as Britain's oldest surviving rock lighthouse. It stands 11 miles offshore from Arbroath in the North Sea and enjoys views from the museum webcam. Built in 1813, Signal Tower served the lighthouse until it was decommissioned in 1955 and later became a museum in 1974.
With multi-media displays and historic objects you will be fascinated by the tales of Arbroath's fishing and maritime industries. You will hear about the 'Mucklebackit woman' who sold Arbroath Smokies (a type of smoked fish originating from the area) and tall tales of the pirate Ralph the Rover.
Opening Hours: April to October – Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm.
November to March – Thursday to Saturday 10am-4pm.
