The Lonach Gathering is recognised as one of Scotland’s friendliest Highland Games which were founded in 1823 when Scotland was on the verge of huge change to emerge from the bleak post Culloden years to resume her rightful place in the World. The Lonach March represents that unbroken link to the 21st Century. When you encounter the Lonach Highlanders for the first time be taken back to pre-1745 Scotland.
The traditional games start and finish with the grand spectacles of the March of the Lonach Highlanders and the Beating of the Retreat with the Lonach Pipe Band. During the games you will be treated to more marches by the Massed pipe Bands while the Highland Dancing competition with the bonnie lassies displaying their skills and big strong men tossing cabers and weights around.
There are Light Athletic events and children's races throughout the afternoon culminating in the local Hill Race.
