Due to its easy accessability from Glasgow and elswhere in Central Scotland and relative ease of ascent from Rowardennan, Ben Lomond is one of the most popular Munros. Reward yourself with full length views of Loch Lomond and far beyond to the hills in the north and the Trossachs to the east. The route has been well maintained to support the busy traffic up and down.
It is visible from the higher grounds of Glasgow and eastwards across the low-lying central valley of Scotland; this may have led to it being named 'Beacon Mountain'. Ben Lomond's summit can also be seen from Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Britain, over 110 km away.
If approaching from the west shore of Loch Lomond it is possible to take the summer ferry from Tarbet Pier early morning to Rowardennan, make your summit and be back.
