This is the course which defines the term "Classic Links Course", as originally crafted by nature and is in complete contrast to the manicured fairways and greens of the modern game. Although the terrain is generally flat with undulations and depressions the abundance of bunkers can trap those long drives. They are not ordinary bunkers but with names like "Road Hole Bunker" and "Hell Bunker" you will understand their effect on your game.
The course has plenty of large mounds of coarse grass and heather to obscure your view of the holes. You also have to contend with the prevailing sea wind which the open space does nothing to ameliorate. Both factors play an important role in how you attack this course.
N.B Visitor Policy: All year apart from Sundays and by reservation or by ballot. Need to book well in advance. There is a daily ballot for play the next day but it does not always guarantee a game. Visitors must have handicap certificates or letter of introduction.
